Terms and conditions
These Terms and Conditions and any rules specified by Thurrock Council or any of its partners or suppliers from time to time (“the rules”) apply to the Next Top Boss Competition (“Competition”, “Next Top Boss”). By taking part in the Competition, you agree to be bound by the terms and conditions and the rules by the decisions of Thurrock Council which are final in all matters relating to the competition. Thurrock Council reserves the right to disqualify any entrant and/or winner in its absolute discretion for any reason and without notice in accordance with the rules.
Outline of the Competition:
Participation in the Competition is open to all individuals who meet the entry criteria, subject to any limitation on numbers set out in the rules, and individuals shall compete in teams of up to 10 people. Entrants can apply in a team or individually and the Next Top Boss Team will try to assist such individuals to join a team. Team Entry Form
The requirements of the Competition are set out in the introduction manual which is supplied at the time of registration. The Competition consists of several challenges, maintaining a blog and also participation in activity days organised by our partners.
Entrants are judged both individually and on team performance. Points are awarded for effort and achievement in completing the challenges, blog and activity days. Awards will be awarded to both teams and individuals on the basis of achievement in the Competition and for effort.

While the Next Top Boss Team will provide advice and support to entrants, they will not assist in doing or completing work for entrants in the Competition.
To be eligible to be considered for entry individuals must:
- Be aged 16 – 19 but not older than 20 on 31st August 2011
- Live, work or study in Thurrock or attend any of the Next Top Boss partner college campuses
- Accept that the judges’ decision is final
- Be named on a team entry form submitted not later than Friday 7th October 2011. Entries after this date will be considered on a case by case basis.
You should be aware that:
- By entering the Competition you warrant that you have truthfully and accurately completed the application form and acknowledge and agree that Thurrock Council may in its sole discretion disqualify you from any part of the Competition at any stage if you supply or have supplied any untruthful, inaccurate or misleading details and/or information and/or have failed to abide by the rules or are otherwise in breach of any of the terms of the Competition.
- Entrants must follow the instructions for each challenge or activity day as part of the Competition. Failure to follow the instructions or any unfair conduct may lead to you having points deducted or being suspended or disqualified from the Competition or any part.
- Activity days are organised by partners and third parties. You must follow the instructions of the organiser of the activity day. The organiser may exclude any individual from participating in the activity if that individual fails to follow its instructions or acts in breach of security or health and safety rules.
- Entries to the Competition will be judged in accordance with the rules and the judges’ decision is final.
- Thurrock Council will announce the winners and awards in March 2012.
- The awards are supplied by third parties and may take the form of recruitment or work placement opportunities at a third party organisation. Thurrock Council accepts no responsibility for the awards awarded and entrants accept that claiming a award is subject to meeting criteria or requirements of the organisation offering the award. While Thurrock Council will endeavour to match potential winners to awards, it reserves the right to refuse a award to an entrant who does not meet the organisation’s criteria and to select a winner who does meet the criteria.
- Thurrock Council reserves the right to cancel or modify awards for reasons beyond Thurrock Council’s control and assumes no liability if the award is not delivered or provided for reasons beyond Thurrock Council’s control.
- The awards are not transferable into a cash payment.
- Thurrock Council reserve the right, in their sole discretion and without responsibility or liability therefore, to suspend, cancel or modify the Competition at any time in the event of any circumstances (outside Thurrock Council’s control) which may prevent the Competition from proceeding as planned.
- You grant Thurrock Council a perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free licence to use and copy materials you produce as part of the Competition, excluding any materials owned by third parties, and the concepts contained in them for the administration of the Competition, its own business purposes and promotional purposes. Thurrock Council shall be entitled to share and sub-license those materials with third parties.
- You warrant all materials submitted for the Competition are your own work or that of your team. You may not copy anyone else’s work, whether online or offline, for the Competition and any copying will entitle Thurrock Council to disqualify you.
All winners will be required to:
- Provide proof of age (copy of driving license, birth certificate, passport etc).
- Take part in publicity activities including (but not limited to) press interviews, TV interviews and other video material.
General:
- The promoter is Thurrock Council, Civic Offices, New Road, Grays, Essex, RM17 6SL
- No purchase is necessary.
- Thurrock Council’s liability under or in connection with these rules shall be limited to the value of the awards to which you are entitled.
- Thurrock Council shall not be liable for any losses, taxes, liabilities or inconvenience suffered by any entrant as a result of these rules or entering the Competition except the Thurrock Council does not exclude or limit its liability for death or personal injury caused by its negligence, fraudulent misrepresentation or any other liability to the extent that such liability cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law or regulation.
- Thurrock Council shall not be liable under or in connection with these rules for any indirect, special or consequential cost, expense, loss or damage even if such cost, expense, loss or damage was reasonably foreseeable or might reasonably have been contemplated by the entrant and Thurrock Council and whether arising from breach of contract, tort, negligence, breach of statutory duty or otherwise.
- Thurrock Council does not accept responsibility for (1) lost, late or undelivered entries or (2) any technical or access issue, failure, malfunction or difficulty that might hinder entry to the Competition including any failure or delays in connection with the Next Top Boss website.
- Information transmitted via the Next Top Boss website or e-mail will pass over public telecommunications network. Thurrock Council makes no representation or warranty that the operation of its website or access to information relating to the Competition will be uninterrupted or error free and disclaim all liability in respects of this.
- All winners’ names will be posted on the Next Top Boss Website for at least 90 days following the announcement of winners.
Privacy and publicity
- We take your privacy very seriously and we will only use information about you provided or generated in applying for or participating in the Competition in accordance with our privacy policy.
- Thurrock Council may promote the Competition by taking and publishing photos and video footage of the Competition, printing details of winners on the Next Top Boss Website and conduction and publishing interviews with winners and participants. This publicity material may be posted on the Next Top Boss Website and conducting and publishing interviews with winners and participants. By entering the Competition, you consent to your name, likeness and details being used for this purpose, subject to our privacy policy.
These terms and conditions are governed by English law and any dispute arising out of or in connection with them will be subject to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts.
