Next Top Boss is a challenge competition giving teams of young people access to world-class organisations, mentors and support as they negotiate a series of real life business challenges.  Competitors will work in teams with real companies, making contacts, researching, shaping and solving real business challenges and proving they’ve got what it takes to be the next generation of leaders. The competition will test their ability to make and use relationships, come up with ideas and work together.

Where is Next Top Boss based?

The initiative is based in Thurrock and is open to Thurrock residents aged 17-19

What are the key dates?

• 9 December 2009 - Initiative launched by Thames Gateway minister, Shahid Malik
• February – April 2010 - Competition entry period
• May 2010 – Challenges begin
• August 2010 – Challenges finish
• December 2010 – Awards ceremony

Why has Next Top Boss been created?

• to open the doors of the working world to young people – and build the next generation of business leaders
• Every one of the 1,000 chosen entrants will develop skills that will help them get their feet firmly on the career ladder and be encouraged to push themselves further
• Businesses get fresh ideas and access to a savvy new generation of talent
• to promote Thurrock as a place to do business and to give its pool of talent the recognition it deserves
• to allow Thurrock’s educational institutions to showcase the diversity of skills they’re passing on and encourage more youngsters to continue into further and higher education.

Who is Next Top Boss for, and who is involved?

• The competition is open to 17 to 19 year olds living in Thurrock.  From the initial applications, 1,000 entrants will be chosen to take part in the challenges in teams of up to ten people
• Team Thurrock is made up of 21 private and public sector organisations, including retail, manufacturing, the arts and service industries, which will coach, challenge and encourage teams throughout the competition:
